Merry Christmas

Another year passes and it seems that apart from the now notorious FLAMING CROTCH blooper featured on "It'll be alright on the night" I am fast becoming Discovery Real Times' answer to "Only Fools and Horses" given the frequency they show my old programs over Christmas. Luckily a lot of you guys seem to like the repeat shows and I always seem to get another wave of new viewers which is great.

I must apologise again for the makeshift site you've arrived at and I have to reassure you all that there is a new site in the offing that seems to be reliant on the imminent arrival of Broadband in my tiny village. France Telecom told me it was first arriving almost 4 years ago so I'll believe it when I actually see it.

I have managed to Salvage almost the whole of the crashed website but it sits in a folder of over 50 megs. I have trouble uploading anything more than 150Kbps with the stone age dial-up system endured by myself and 3% of the French population. We're just a little too remote. Luckily a benevolent local group has stumped up 80% of the cash needed to install a satellite system. The mast is in place and we're just waiting for the satellite guys to fit our wireless receivers when we should be up and running. I think I'll miss all the endless waiting for uploads. Yeah right!!
We will get a system a hundred times faster for under half the price so there wont be a lot of sentimental hankering for telephone systems of the recent past. I have not been idle however, I've been busy beavering away on a book that I hope will have far more useful content than your average TV spin-off. As well as working through about a dozen completely new builds I will have useful chapters on free building material, axe throwing, household paint making, gardens, suppliers, foraging etc etc.
I am doing this completely off my own bat and still have to interest a publisher. I ain't actually approached any of them yet but if you like the idea of a book please drop a line saying something along those lines to salvagerbook@gmail.com.

If it all comes off then I'll give all those who took the trouble to leave a note the opportunity to get personalised copies later. I also welcome mail at salvager@gmail.com if you just wanna send me a message.

Anyways, enjoy the rest of your holiday and a have great New Year.

RICO

I have been watching your show today and have seen about 6 of them. Although the stuff you make could be considered junkier than the junk they were made from, I have to confess to liking the stuff. Your show and your manner of presentation is very watchable and I have enjoyed it. Keep going and have a great holiday. Hope your broadband is up and coming soon. I have added you to my favourites so will pop back from time to time to see how you are getting on.
Regards
Dehvem.

Rico, your series The Salvager/Le Salvager was broadcast back-to-back on Discovery RT for 12 hours last Sunday; although the family has seen all the instalments more than once and we have most of them on video, we still sat down to watch you Sunday afternoon finish off the cut-off van roof boat + build the trailer for it. Couldn't get bored with the Salvager series like we have become with 'Fools & Horses'. The wife said you must have skin on your hands like rhinoceros hide for the sparks coming off the grinder not to burn you!

All the best for 2009!................look forward to reading your blog in the New Year

I HAVE ENJOYED ALL THE PROGRAMMES I HAVE WATCHED OF THE SALVAGER AND LE SALVAGER, IT'S SOME GOOD IDEAS TO USE SOME OF THE STUFF I HAVE SALVAGED OVER THE YEARS TOO,
I HOPE MORE PROGRAMMES ARE TO BE MADE FOR SKIP CHASERS LIKE ME TO SEE.
THANKS FOR BEING A REAL PERSON MATE.
BEST WISHES FOR 2009, KIND REGARDS, DAVE (ORGANICMECHANIC1)

Hi Rico,
I remember some of the projects back when they were first shown, but unfortunately have missed most of the reruns, and definitely missed the FLAMING CROTCH.
When your website is up and fully running will you have that out take on the site?
Good luck and best wishes to you and your family for 2009.
Regards Dave W.

After spending the day watching your shows I am a total fan.
I love the straight forward no bull way in which you do everything.
Made me feel like I have wasted too many years doing stuff I hate.I can't think of anything nicer than creating such lovely pieces out of obsolete things from the past, and giving them a new life.
Thanks for the inspiration, you're a real diamond amongst the fakes.
Cheers Chris

I found your series by accident over Christmas and I'm afraid I was hooked despite the series being a few years old.

Are there any plans in the pipeline for a new series? I'd love to see whats been happening to the workshop since the series was aired,

Keep up the good work, all the best for 09

Been a fan for years and just watched a back-to-back Salvager re-run which prompted me to Google you and find out what you're doing.
Glad to see you're still around and "creating." Regards, Steve

Hi Rico. watched your shows for the first time over the holidays and one of the shows that we enjoyed most was the 2 part one that you made the bed, I have to tell you that this show has created a little spark in my 11 year old Son to the extent that he wants to start a similar project and build his own bed. I have agreed to do this with him during the school summer holidays which gives us plenty of time to scratch up some reclaimed materials. We look forward to seeing more of your shows, keep up the good work.
